April 13, 2011 Mel McDaniels Memorial Service

McDANIEL, MelAge 68 of Hendersonville. March 31, 2011. Mel McDaniel, country music entertainer for over 50 years, songwriter and Grand Ole Opry member for 25 years, died of lung cancer on March 31st after several years of illness. Mel was born September 6, 1942 in Checotah, OK and has been a Nashville area resident for 40 years. He achieved a lifelong dream of recording an album of his written songs one month before his death titled "The Last Ride". The final year of his life, he was surrounded by family; daughter, Danielle; grandson, Joseph; ex-wife, Mary and good friend, Barry Roberts. A true gentleman, Mel loved music, his fans, but most of all, his family. He is remembered for his work ethic, his wit and his humble attitude when with fellow music legends. He will be missed by many, but remembered by all through his music. A Memorial will be held at The Grand Ole Opry House on Wednesday, April 13th from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Opry Trust Fund, 2804 Opryland Dr., Nashville, TN 37214. COLE & GARRETT, (615) 824-8605.

As I get myself ready to head on over to the most historical venue for country music, The Grand Ole Opry House, my heart is heavy thinking of the lost of a true legend.
